Faith-Based Therapy
After over forty-five years treating patients, I’ve seen many theories come and go, but nothing has deeper, longer lasting benefits than the principles of gospel to undergird our therapy.
Homework Assignments
Homework keeps the client focused between sessions on finding solutions to their problems.
Evidence of Application
I require the client to show evidence of progress through the application of their homework assignments.
Honesty, Integrity & Accountability
These are the hallmarks of my practice.
Lifechanging Successes
Reach Your Full Potential
The best way for you to learn about my ability to help you is for you to read the experiences of former clients in their reviews. Over 90% of my clients reach their clinical goals.
Clients make the necessary changes that produce a happier healthy life. They gain skills of self-control and self-mastery over their former symptoms or addictions. Hope and happiness replace depression and despair. Fear and doubt are replaced by courage and self-confidence. Marital relationships are strengthened and welded together. The vast majority report a deeper, closer and more meaningful spiritual life.
Keys to Success
Most clients struggle for months, if not years, before getting the help they need. Some don’t know who to ask. Some are too afraid or too embarrassed, but once they begin counseling, they soar to new heights.
Many clients enter therapy having seen two or three other therapists before me. They did not find the success they had hoped for.
They feel energized with new hope; they are more productive in every area of their life. Friends often comment on their new found positive attitude and behaviors. Their self-esteem and confidence goes up as they practice newly learned skills.
Four keys I use to help my clients succeed are:
-
I like people and LISTEN to them.
-
I give frequent encouragement and celebrate their successes.
-
I give meaningful homework assignments.
-
I require them to share their “evidence of application.”

(Loss of Multiple Family Deaths, Sexually Abused, Depression & Self Esteem)
"I am a daughter of God and all things that He creates are beautiful, therefore I am beautiful too. I am forever changed by his work."
My pre-adolescence was very difficult, within just a few years, I lost my father, mother and brother to AIDS. I was placed in foster care and sexually abused multiple times. I had struggled with self-esteem and depression for three years. My depression was mild and would come and go. My self-esteem; however, was a constant battle. It went up and down.
I met a therapist before meeting with Gordon and things did not go well. I honestly felt worse about myself. At that point I decided that counseling wasn’t for me. My poor self-esteem, compounded with depression, got really bad. It took over my brain, clouded my decisions, and impacted my daily work. It affected every decision I made. I remember our first meeting and thinking this will not work. Then he brought up a spiritual component of therapy. I believe the spiritual aspect of it helped me become humble and accept that I can do this counseling thing. It opened my heart to the possibility that things could be different and that is why I met with Gordon. My life was changed forever. One of my homework assignments was to look in the mirror and say “I am beautiful. I am worth it.” I do this now on days I feel down and it always helps me feel better. I have also shared it with others, and they find it helpful as well.
Our therapy sessions helped me accept the truth and then learn how to change things for the better. For instance, one thing that I hated and brought my self-esteem down was that I felt ugly, and my face was the first thing people saw and therefore, could potentially judge me. One thing I learned in therapy, is that it’s true others will look at me and appearance matters, but the most important thing was that I knew in my heart that I am a daughter of God and all things that He creates are beautiful, therefore I am beautiful too. It was eye opening.
I could go on and on. I am forever changed by his work. I thank him for helping me see my true self-worth. I am a much happier person because I know I am worth it.

I highly recommend Gordon’s services to anyone facing challenges they struggle to overcome on their own. He embodies Christlike characteristics and attributes, enabling him to help others feel loved and supported in the face of difficult circumstances.

(Bi-Polar Depression, Suicide Ideation, & Marital Discord)
"Gordon worked with me to break through some lifelong thoughts, fears and misbeliefs that were bringing me down."
I have bipolar depression and occasional bouts of suicidal ideation. Now I have finally have been able to find the right medication combined with the right counselor, which makes all the difference.
Gordon Foote was a wonderful counselor to work with. He is different from other counselors that I have seen because he incorporates homework assignments and brings in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This allows the Spirit to enter in with each session. The Spirit is the ultimate teacher.
While Gordon helped me with a number of things, the one that I wish to leave in this review is the improvement in my relationship with my husband. He helped me to understand him in a way I hadn't before. He helped me to change myself and helped me learn ways that increased the love and joy in our marriage.
Another aspect that should be mentioned, is I have struggled with low self-esteem. Gordon worked with me to break through some lifelong thoughts, fears and misbeliefs that were bringing me down. Increasing my self-worth and confidence is a blessing for myself, my husband, and my children. I began participating in activities, like swimming, that I hadn't done before, and it has strengthened my relationship with my family and especially my little children.
The homework assignments give the patient an opportunity to put into action what is being discussed during each session. It quickens the progression and change that can be made. Acting on the assignments helped me greatly overcome some of the things Gordon and I worked on. The more effort that I put in, the more I got out of each session and the more help I received.
It was a great blessing to work with Gordon, and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. He can make a difference, and he has already made a great difference in my life.
